New Year’s Eve Party Planning: Décor, Entertainment, and Menu

December 15, 2015

As the countdown begins, you don’t want to be looking around your party wishing you had done things differently. Instead, you’ll want to be cheering along with the rest of your guests, excited for the new year. New Year’s Eve parties should be fun and original, but it’s understandable that after years and years of planning events like these, you may want to incorporate some fresh ideas.

We can’t wait for the ticking of the clock that signifies a new beginning, and to help you ring in the new year, we’ve got some great ideas to throw the perfect bash.

Don’t Skimp on the Sparkles

From glitter-dipped Champagne bottles to sequined tablecloths, don’t leave any corner neglected when it comes to sparkle. New Year’s Eve is everyone’s excuse to get dolled up, so don’t stop short with your event décor. We’ve got the perfect table linen, too—Black Gabriella or Gold Tori are both high-shine looks for the New Year’s party you’ve got in mind. Another fun way to use sparkles is to dip balloons in glue, then coat them with glitter (or use glitter spray paint)—instant disco ball effect!

Entertainment for Guests

Until the clock strikes midnight, New Year’s Eve parties are all about mingling with one another. If all of the party’s guests don’t know each other, it can feel a little stiff at first, so it’s important to include games or other icebreakers at your party so everyone has fun. For instance, you can try setting up a jar of conversation starters on paper, and have guests use those to chat with people they don’t know. It might seem corny or rustic, but for shy party guests, it can be a lifesaver!

Serve Snacks, Sweets, and Sips

Plan a varied menu of appetizers, mini-desserts, and cocktails or Champagne. Serve an assortment of savory and sweet, as well as meat- or gluten-free options for guests with special diets. Be sure to have a few non-alcoholic options on hand, too, for kids, designated drivers, and teetotalers—sparkling grape juice or sparkling apple cider (not hard cider) are great options, but you can also check out mocktail recipes for something a bit more interesting.
