Fall is officially here, and we love the excitement of the changing season. We caught up with Natalie Walsh of Hello Darling to see where she finds autumnal inspiration.
A pleasing combination of rich jewel tones with pops of green and saffron, organic textures of fruit and vegetables, and perfectly curated vintage accessories combine thoughtfully in this chic harvest setting designed by Natalie. Forget about fallen autumn leaves or a collection of gourds, this is autumn with a twist.
Here’s her inspiration for this non-traditional, hand-picked setting that will bring warmth to any fall celebration.
High Couture Harvest
Natalie enjoys playing on the farm-to-table dinner party vibe. The casual elegance of this setting is elevated by the vibrant colors and silhouettes of interesting florals and foliage as well as by the careful placement of beautiful artichokes, eggplants, pomegranates and figs. Colors are dramatic, but easy on the eyes like a stroll through the woods on a fall afternoon.
She loves the table’s warm and inviting centerpieces. “They’re a natural conversation starter,” she says. “All of the elements are so interesting and welcoming, it’s a treat to sit at a table like this!”
Eclectic and Vintage
Flickering burgundy candles add both contrast and complement to the deep blue Indigo Yuma cloth and striped Manhattan napkin. This multi-layered eclectic and vintage collection has endless possibilities and is as fit for a vineyard as it is for a formal dining room.
“I love the rough and refined textural elements that play off of each other,” says Natalie.
Build Drama with Contrasts
Contrast is an essential part of the appeal for this design. From the organic texture of the Indigo Yuma tablecloth – a regal twist on traditional fall hues – to the relaxed stripe of the Manhattan napkins, Natalie loves to mix patterns and textures to create a richer experience for each person at the table.
The mix of linen textures is a perfect base to top with timeless white china on woven rattan chargers accompanied by unadorned gold flatware. Mismatched glassware adds a delightful verve to the overall scheme, while the colorful candles and bright poufs of velvety blooms punctuate the tablescape.
Tradition Evolves Naturally
This fall tablescape is as appropriate for a cozy family gathering as it is for a large celebration. Mix inviting colors and textures, and varying scales and shapes of décor elements - and know that not everything needs to match. Feel free to weave rustic charm with modern function, creating a fusion that is both visually exciting and comforting. This is, after all, the essence of elegant entertaining.
Take hospitality to award-winning heights, but also be forewarned, Natalie says: “Your guests may love sitting at your gorgeous table so much that they'll never want to leave!”
