Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala 2012

For those of you who have never heard the tale of Rita Hayworth, she was once one of Hollywood’s most notable actresses starring in timeless movies with legends like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, James Cagney, Cary Grant, and John Wayne. Then in the 1970′s, she began drinking a lot, but was misdiagnosed due to her alcoholic tendencies. She in fact had Alzheimer’s disease, but that was not properly diagnosed until 1980 and eventually passed away in 1987.
Her daughter, Yasmin Aga Khan, took care of her during these hard times. Moved by the struggles of her mom with the disease, Yasmin then decided to hold fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Association that would benefit the research of eradicating Alzheimer’s forever. Fast forward to this past Saturday, where Yasmin Aga Khan hosted the 25th Annual Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala (held during Mother’s Day weekend) which has raised more than $55 million towards research throughout the years.
